A Cool restaurant experience in Playa del Carmen
26 Dec 2018
Plank gourmet grill and patio bar, is the second restaurant by renowned gourmet Chef Juan Diego Solombrino in Playa del Carmen, the other being an intimate and highly recommended fine dining venue, Imprevist, already reviewed by me in Trip Advisor.
At Plank, the menu is varied and can satisfy every taste with two soups, spinach cream and seafood bisque and two salads, mediterranean and signature salad with bacon, poached egg and garlic croutons. Nine enticing appetizers include smoked gravlax, scallops and pork belly, seafood sampler composed of oyster rockefeller, shrimp, tuna and scallops or grilled octopus. There are also six enticing Flatbread options including grilled spicy chicken, goat cheese or yellow fish tuna.
While anyone can dine solely from the fifteen appetizers and flatbreak menu options, Plank also offers four smoked entrees prepared for several hours in their custom smoker, namely baby back ribs, beef brisket, smoked pork fillet or a sampler of those three.
For serious meat and grill lovers, no less than six succulent steaks can delight your palate with filet mignon, beef wellington, rib eye, veal chop, porterhouse and even Tomahawk steak- prime bone in rib eye.
Finally no less than nine additional exquisite main courses cooked and served on Cedarwood planks or himalayan salt planks, will delight any taste with a wide selecion of seafood dishes, including salmon, sea bass, jumbo shrimp, or lobster and fin tuna, as well as chicken or mixed grill dishes.
Plank also offers special menus, Vegetarian, Beer Pairing and Kosher. We were two couples and opted for a five course tasting menu, each paired with a signature cocktail, an innovative and fun fine dining proposal; all four of us agreed that this was a wonderful experience, with delicious Smoked Tuna Tataki, perfectly grilled salmon, scallops and pork belly (a winner), mouth watering bbq ribs, and a memorable creme brulee with cardamom. Each signature dish followed in a crescendo of exquisite savours & textures, each perfectly paired with a delightful cocktail based on Mezcal, or classic premium spirit, mixology being a distinctive strength of this must visit restaurant.
As to prices, soups and salads average nine dollars, appetizers range between ten to twelve dollars, and main courses between 15 to 25$, except for sea bass and lobster up to thirty dollars. As Plank uses the finest ingredients from USDA Certified meats, Prime seafood and fresh seasonal herbs and vegetables, these moderate prices are worth every cent.
Just like its sister restaurant Imprevist, the level of service, food quality, creative presentations, very nice ambiance and moderate prices make Plank one of the best restaurants options in Playa del Carmen.
